What workshops do we offer?
The Centre offers a range of workshops and seminars on topics such as:

Identifying giftedness

What is giftedness?
Why is it necessary to identify it? (Is it necessary?)
Why do so many gifted children underachieve?
How can we recognise giftedness in a child?
What's the difference between gifted and bright?
What role does testing play? Are IQ tests valid or useful?
What tools can the classroom teacher use to aid in identification?
What should we say to the parent who says their child is gifted?
Why aren't more Maori identified as gifted?
What can we do about the uneven gender ratio in identification?

Understanding the behaviour of gifted children

What are the learning and developmental needs of the gifted child?
How do these differ from those of other children? In what ways are they the same?
What are the learning and developmental issues faced by the gifted child?
How might the child's behaviour reflect these needs and issues?
What's positive about such behaviour? What's potentially negative?
Why are gifted children such a diverse group?
How do we interpret psychologists' reports? What do those figures and terms mean?
Why is dyslexia significant in this context?
How can we respond positively to the behaviours we see in gifted children?

Strategies for the classroom teacher

What are the learning characteristics of the gifted child?
How do these translate into learning style?
How can we turn this into a framework for lesson planning?
What practical strategies can we use to implement this?
Will we need special resources?
How do these strategies fit with the rest of the classroom programme?
What implications are there for the learning environment in the classroom?
How can we use this to enhance learning for all our children?
How can we evaluate and report on what we do with the gifted child?
Can all the needs of the gifted child be met in the classroom?
