What is GO?

GO  stands for "Gifted Online". It is an interactive online version of One Day SchoolGO has been operating since 2002, and the website and its related services were revamped in 2008. The platform used has been specifically developed for educational settings, and enhanced for the requirements of the GO programme.

Our GO coordinator is Mary St George.

How does it work?

GO has its own special website. GO students work  in "classes" of 12, all about the same age, as in One Day School, but coming from all over  New Zealand (and on increasingly frequent occassions, around the world!).

Classes meet twice weekly on the website in the GO chatroom to discuss their current learning theme. Children have a range of both online and offline activities to choose from, and can meet with the GO programme teacher in the website mentor room, use the website bulletin board for reference,  access the newspage or research links checked by the GO programme teacher, publish their work and talk with each other via email.

Each child has his or her home page. (All parts of the site are password-protected in the interests of safety).

You are able to visit the GO website and see for yourself exactly how it works at http://ultranet.giftededucation.org.nz

How is it different from other websites?

We believe GO is unique in New Zealand.  It is not just about "information technology". It is about  using computers to bring like minds together to share ideas and interests, challenge each other's thinking, experience  true peer companionship and build lasting friendships. Like One  Day School, GO cares about the whole child and understands the need gifted children  have to meet others like themselves.

How was it developed?

The Centre put a proposal to the Ministry of Education's contestable funding pool to develop such a programme. It was awarded the funding needed to build the website and to help monitor the programme's development for the first three years. Since then it has been required to be self-funding.

Who can join?

GO was specially developed to help gifted children living in isolated or rural communities or other areas where there is not a One Day School. However, it is now available to schools, by negotiation. to allow groups of identified gifted students to work together on the programme.

How much does it cost?

As with One Day School fees, there is a cost-recovery charge. It is slightly lower than One Day School fees because GO does not need to rent classroom space or purchase equipment and resources.

The pricing for children enrolled using the new site is $450.00 per term.

Costs for school groups enrolled on the 'GO Team' programme are calculated on a case-by-case basis.

How can we apply?

Contact our GO coordinator, Mary St George, and she will post an application pack out to you.
